James D. Leach

James Leach was appointed Executive Director of the Estey Centre in 1999. A graduate of the University of Toronto (B.Com. , M.A.), he was Executive Assistant to the President and Lecturer in Economics at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay prior to joining the Trade Commissioner Service in 1968.

During his Foreign Service career, he served 24 years abroad, mainly in Latin America (Chile, Peru, and Mexico), but also in India, Pakistan, the former Soviet Union, the Netherlands, and the United States. From 1990 to 1993 he was Canada's Ambassador to Peru.
